Our practice is ever striving to keep current with the latest developments and technology available for the cosmetic enhancement of aging or sun-damaged skin. The procedures that we offer are chosen for their safety and effectiveness, and usually require no extensive anesthesia or recovery time.
Chemical Peels
Cleopatra bathed in sour milk to purify her skin … and the art of the chemical peel was born.
The milder acids – Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic – peel away the dead, dull layers of skin leaving visibly healthier, glowing skin. These peels can be performed in ten minutes without any downtime.
A maintenance program – a series of peels – keeps your skin looking vibrant and helps reverse signs of aging and environmental exposure. They can be used in combination with most of the non-invasive treatments and enhance the effects of Botox and fillers.
For repairing the effects of chronic acne or severe sun exposure – dark, irregular pigmentation, and wrinkling – a stronger peel (TCA, trichloroacetic acid) is an alternative to laser resurfacing. TCA peels require 4 to 5 days of downtime and can be repeated in 3 to 6 months if necessary.
Chemical peels:
- Smooth out fine surface wrinkles
- Remove superficial blemishes
- Correct pigment problems
- Can be used on neck or other body areas
- Can be used for light-skinned to olive-skinned individuals
- Sometimes can be used for darker-skinned patients
Sclerotherapy
Spider veins are those ugly, dark, little blue veins that run up and down the legs resembling lines on a road map. Sometimes spiders group themselves into nasty little star burst patterns that pop out where they are least wanted! Sometimes they fan out along the outside of the thigh or the inner aspect of the lower leg. Often they gather around the ankles or behind the knees.
Sclerotherapy involves injections, with a tiny needle, directly into the spider veins. Over a few weeks after treatment, the veins gradually disappear. In most cases, after leg vein treatment, normal activities can be resumed immediately. Several treatments with occasional touch ups can lead to excellent results. Sometimes, we can use a combination of sclerotherapy and laser treatment to get the best results.
Laser Hair Removal
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy and all are only temporary.
For long-term hair removal, electrolysis has been effective but it can be uncomfortable and slow. Hair by hair, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the hair root making it unable to grow. Now there is a more effective solution. The new Gentle YAG Laser, a state-of-the-art system able to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort, and more reliably than many other methods.
The Gentle YAG laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, destroying many follicles at the same time, eliminating or slowing hair re-growth. During treatment the upper layers of skin are protected by a cooling spray, thus permitting effective treatment of patients with any skin type. Because it is the pigment that attracts the laser energy, it is important that your skin is not overly pigmented (tanned or sunburned) at the time of treatment as this increases the chances of side effects.
The length of a laser treatment session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser treats the follicles that are actively growing most efficiently, often 4 to 6 treatments or more will be necessary to destroy the other follicles as they enter their growth phase.
The laser treatment itself can cause a slight tingling or heat sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthetic cream is an option.
The appearance of the treated area after a laser session will vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of treatment and the skin type. Redness and swelling may occur, but are usually gone in minutes. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately following treatment.
Earlobe Repair
Can’t wear your favorite earrings any more? Your ear lobes can be repaired easily and without discomfort. With a small amount of local anesthesia the layers of the earlobe can be sown together again. One month later you can have a new opening created for your earrings.
Surface Mole Removal
Large or small moles, growths, spots, skin tags, and facial spider veins can be removed without stitches or injected anesthesia. A fine wire using radiofrequency waves can literally shave off these lesions one layer at a time, leaving little to no residual marks.
Thermage Procedure
(Tighter Skin without Surgery)
Non-Surgical Face, Neck and Brow Lift
With the gentle touch of the device tip, the surface of the skin is cooled, while radiofrequency energy is used to heat the deeper layers of the skin. This causes a gradual contraction and tightening over a 4 to 6 month period, lifting and firming the treated area. The technique is particularly helpful in creating a more defined jawline and diminishing the skin folds around the nose and mouth.
Thermage can easily fit into any lifestyle because there is no downtime after treatment. While not a substitute for a surgical facelift, the Thermage procedure is ideal for patients with a moderate amount of sagging skin and wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is sometimes referred to as a mini-face lift or ThermaLift because this non-surgical procedure lifts and tightens tissue, similar to a facelift without the surgery.
